  • First Friday of Every Month Baarikärpäset Bar Night (First Fridays with Finnish "Bar Flies") Chicagoland Finnish-American organizations jointly invite all area Finns (and Finns at heart!) to fun & casual bar nights every First Friday of the month. Baarikärpäset will flock to Kitty O'Sheas, 720 S. Michigan Ave (Hotel Hilton & Towers) after work (~5:30p.m. =>) with absolutely no agenda, program, or responsibilities!
  • Karita Mattila stars at the Met/Live in HD as Tosca (dramatic opera by Puccini, sung in Italian, English supertitles). Sat Oct 10 at noon and again on Wed Oct 28 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets $22/$15.   • Wed November 4: Sweden Shop private shopping evening with wine and hors d’oeuvres from Tre Kronor. Special discounts on Finnish brands such as Marimekko, Iittala, Arabia… 3304 W. Foster, in Andersonville, Chicago.

  • Sat August 22: Finnish School Summer Olympics 2009 in Centennial Park, Naperville, IL. Teams from local Finnish organizations compete in traditional Finnish sports like "cell phone throwing" and "rubber boot throwing".

  • Tue September 15: FACC Midwest Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Lottie's Pub, 1925 W. Cortland in Bucktown/Wicker Park area, 773-489-0738.
  • Fri September 18: Annual FACC Golf Classic at Cog Hill, Lemont, Illinois.
  • Mon September 21: Sibelius Academy Music Festival - Sibelius Academy students from Helsinki perform jazz, folk & classical music. Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington St, Naperville. 7 p.m. Tickets $10/$5.
  • Sat October 3: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Florida Panthers hockey game at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki.  We will be watching the game at Lottie’s Pub in Bucktown. Puck drops at 11am; join us around 10am to get situated and watch some pre-game festivities. Free event in the downstairs party room; pay-as-you-go for food and drinks. 1925 W.
